CEE Animation Masterclass 2024: How to Create Captivating Content for Young Audience?

We are delighted to invite you to the 7th edition of CEE Animation Masterclass, an educational event for film professionals and students working in animation.

The Masterclass, subtitled Creating Captivating Content for Young Audiences, will take place on March 13. and 14. 2024, at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.

Masterclass by Ivana Laučíková

On Wednesday, March 13th, Slovak director and producer of animated films Ivana Laučíková will follow up on her October lecture on animated films for children, in which she focused on the psychological needs of children and the specifics of their development from 3 to 10 years of age. In the continuation of the lecture, she will focus on the transposition of the identified needs of creation for the child viewer into film aspects. What topics are suitable? What kind of characters? What kind of visual style and color scheme to choose when creating content for children?

Masterclass by Mascha Halberstad

On Thursday, March 14th, Dutch director Mascha Halberstad will take us behind the scenes of her stop-motion work for children. She will focus primarily on her feature-length animated films – Oink (2022) and Fox and Hare Save the Forest(2024), which premiered at this year’s Berlinale in the Berlinale Generation competition section. The program of the masterclass also includes a screening of the film Oink.

Speakers:

Ivana Laučíková

Ivana Laučíková (née Zajacová) is a producer and director of animated films. She graduated in animated film at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where she now teaches. In 2006, she founded the production company feel me film, which focuses on the production of short authorial animated films. The first of these was the film Štyri (2007, dir. Ivana Šebestová – Sun in the Net for best animated film). This was followed by The Last Bus (dir. Martin Snopek, Ivana Laučíková, 2011), Snow (dir. Ivana Šebestová), and Fongopolis (dir. Joanna Kożuch, 2014), Milosť (dir. Ivana Laučíková, 2022). She is currently working as a director on the animated series for children Lesná päťka, the first episode of which was nominated for the Sun in the Net 2023 award for best animated film.

Mascha Halberstad

Director Mascha Halberstad studied at the ArtEZ Art Academy in Arnhem. In 2012, she created the 13-part animated series Picknick with Cake based on the books of Thé Tjong-Khing, which was awarded the Cinekid Kinderkast Fiction 2013 jury prize. Her film Munya in Me won the Grand Jury Prize at the BANFF festival. In 2015, Liam Howlett of The Prodigy asked her to direct the video clip for the song Wild Frontier. She then made several short films and the 26-part animated series Fox & Hare, which won the Cinekid Audience Award. Her first feature film Oink premiered in 2022 in the Berlinale Generation section, was screened at many international festivals and won three Golden Calves at the Dutch Film Festival in 2024.
